5 Easy Habits for Better Health

Good health isn’t just a matter of exercise. There are tons of issues that help in a person’s health and fitness. She’s off to a good start if your kid gets regular exercise by being involved in a youth sports team. As a parent, it’s important to encourage additional habits that work with exercise to achieve overall wellness.

None of these suggestions are anything new, but sometimes it’s better to have the reminder and commit to getting back on track in specific ways. And the more we can involve these tips into our lives, the more we can positively help in what is already happening, health-wise, for our children who are actively taken part in exercise with a team. These five simple tips are habits to pursue, and a lot of us could probably enhance in at least one of these areas.

For beginners, drink more water. So many people hydrate their body by drinking tons of soda these days, and there’s so much that can be said about the negative effects of soda. Excess sugar, empty calories, high fructose corn syrup and chemicals are all good reasons to avoid it. Your body needs water to help with every aspect of its functioning, and most of us aren’t drinking enough. Some people aim to drink a certain amount of water every day, and some might focus on drinking a specific amount at mealtimes.

Pay attention to how much sugar you’re consuming. Consuming too much sugar is a sure way to pack on extra weight and compromise your body’s overall health. You can watch it more carefully by choosing to not eat as many sweets in general, but also by paying attention to food labels for hidden sugars in the ingredients.

Consume healthy fats. Years ago, there was a fad to eat low fat or no fat to keep a healthy weight and better fitness. As an alternative to removing fat, however, you need to work on eating fats that benefit you. Some instances of good fats are avocados, nuts, and fish like albacore tuna and salmon. These types of foods agree with your body, and they’re not the type of fats that make you gain weight.

You also want to eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. In today’s day and age, many packaged foods and snacks make up the bulk of what a lot of people eat, instead of eating food that is fresh and focusing on getting a lot of produce. You can get more of it in your diet is a step in the right direction. Chop a whole bunch of these foods at the beginning of the week so they’re ready for eating, right away, when you’re hungry.

Have adequate rest. You could be doing everything else right, but it doesn’t replace your body’s need for regular, appropriate rest. Allowing your kids get good sleep is vital, including helping them unwind and get into a soothed and peaceful state before going to bed at night. And hey, when they’re worn out, getting a nap in is always a good idea, too.

Whether you need to get everyone to an away game or to a state competition, we’d love to come along for the ride. If you put the focus on overall health and fitness, we can get you where you need to be when it’s time for all that work to pay off and the rubber meets the road at game time!
