09 Oct Family Enjoyment in Fall
When you hear the word fall, what enters your mind? According to where you live, you probably think about different things. We frequently start cooking warmer meals, and curling up with a good book sounds like just the ticket. We take out our Halloween decorations and turn our front yards into spooky displays. We stop by orchard stands and buy fresh produce.
Fall is also a good time for gathering with extended family for lots of fun events and traditions, and if you want to get the whole clan together for an activity, on this page are some ideas you might take into account:
Halloween parties. Bobbing for apples, cake walks, bingo, pumpkin carving, and coloring sheets are all fun ways for the kids in the family to enjoy the season.
Football games. Ummmm … cuz what says fall quite like football? Having everybody over for a BBQ while watching a game is a classic American pastime and one you don’t want to skip out on.
Pumpkin carving. There’s nothing like acquiring all the kids together to carve faces in jack o’ lanterns. It’s always exciting to see what kids come up with, whether they decide on something friendly, funny, or creepy.
Apple picking. It’s pretty fascinating to go as a crew to pick apples, peaches or pears. And hey … you can always do some canning and fill the pantry shelves so you can enjoy the fruit all through the winter, too.
Family pictures. In prep for the coming Yuletide season, families commonly have pictures taken. It’s always entertaining to find just the right location and get a picture with the entire family, incorporating any new additions since the last photo.
Corn maze or haunted houses. There’s nothing quite like opting for some spooks in the month of October. Run past chainsaw holders and get startled by ghosts as you make your way through haunted walls and mazes.
Thanksgiving. Assembling to enjoy a yummy meal and eat your family’s favorite holiday dishes is comforting and charming. Family, familiarity, and relationships are a lovely thing to rejoice each fall.
Trick-or-treating. Make it a family affair! Have everyone over for a scrumptious dinner, get the kids in costume, and head out to spend the evening getting some treats … and maybe some tricks, too!
Hikes to enjoy the colors. When October rolls around, there’s nothing quite like getting up into the mountains to appreciate nature’s colors. Something about the crisp air and stunning surroundings is invigorating.
Run a race together. Whether you decide to run a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning or a Halloween Half, it is exciting to work toward a goal together and afterwards enjoy the race.
Light a fire and read a good book together. When the nights get cooler and it is dark earlier, it’s nice to make it relaxing inside by building a fire and reading aloud with your people.
Make caramel apples. Along with carving pumpkins, making caramel apples is a quintessential fall activity. Fresh orchard apples, caramels, and Popsicle sticks make for a delicious treat.
Hay rides. Why not go for a good, old-fashioned hay ride, complete with donuts and apple cider when it’s undertaken?
Have a chili and cornbread cook off. What is it about chili that makes it seem like a fall meal? Hold a good-natured competition, have some judges, and see which chili is graded best.
Annual hunting adventure. Many families take joy in hunting together. Getting a tag, camping, hiking through the hills, and bringing home game is a fun pastime that has brought families together through time.
In certain cases when the family gathers, it can be hard to keep everyone together (families start extending when children marry and grandchildren come along). For whatever fun is on the calendar for your family this fall, we can handle the transportation so everyone can ride together. Our coaches can carry up to 57 passengers, so we should have you covered! If we can help enhance your family’s fun this fall, don’t think twice to phone us!
