New York City is known for its high ethnic diversity. Food being an important part of culture, the city is blessed with restaurants serving food from diverse ethnicities. While restaurants are a great place to try a new cuisine, a food festival is a must visit to make the experience complete. Here are four amazing food festivals to check out while you’re in NYC.
Westchester Chinese New Year Festival
To be held on February 25, 2017, this festival is being organized by the Westchester Association of Chinese Americans at the Manhattan Performing Arts Center. Apart from savoring samples of a variety of gourmet Chinese dishes, one can also enjoy exhibitions of food presentations, Chinese paintings, calligraphy and handicrafts. There will also be demonstrations of activities such as origami and performances like lion dance and martial arts. One can also enjoy performances by professional artists and acrobatics.
The Caribbean Food Festival
To be held on May 20, 2017, this will be the first Caribbean Food Festival in New York City. This all-day festival (from 11am to 8pm), would have more than 15 of the best Caribbean restaurants, caterers and food vendors showcasing their most delectable dishes. There will be food from Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Barbados, St Lucia, St Vincent and more. While you sample the food, you can enjoy live performances of Calypso and other music. The ticket price is $45, according to a listing on Event Brite.
Sausage & Cider Festival
To be held on July 2, 2017, this will be the third year of the festival being organized at the Bad Seed Cider Company. You can sample over 15 styles of hard ciders, all of which are made using apples that have been grown in the Hudson River valley exclusively for this event. Moreover, there would be 18 taps to sample several unique beers. A variety of sausages will be hand grilled and there are a few dessert options as well.
Italian Championship of Pasta
This is being organized for the first time in NYC between March 7 to September 12, 2017. During this period, 8 teams from different regions of Italy will be preparing their best and most authentic pasta recipes. The contests will take place on different days at different restaurants across the city. Apart from the excitement of being part of a contest, such events are worth visiting to experience local flavors that are not a part of usual restaurant menus, say travel experts at Panorama Bus Tours.
Apart from these food festivals, one can plan to attend the Fermentation Festival on February 25. Organized by the NYC Brewers Guild, the festival gives you an opportunity to sample a variety of the best beers and ciders. Such festivals are a great place to learn about a different culture and their food, while also enjoying some live music and thrilling performances.
